The Princes Highway is closed in both directions at Broadwater for a vehicle salvage operation following an overnight truck fire, the Transport Management Centre said.
Fire & Rescue NSW Eden and Merimbula, RFS Eden, police and paramedics attended the scene after a south bound, double B truck left the road and caught fire.
The incident happened at about 12.30am, close to Jigamy Creek, Thursday, October 14.
According to reports from Fire & Rescue Eden, the driver managed to get out of the truck and was taken to Bega hospital.
Alternating stop slow traffic conditions had been in place on the highway near Jigamy Creek but the highway has now been closed for the salvage operation.
At 9.30am on Thursday morning the Transport Management Centre said it was expected to remain this way while the extensive truck salvage and clean-up operation was completed.
Light vehicles are diverting via Nethercote Road between Greigs Flat and Eden but this diversion is not suitable for heavy vehicles as there is still an unsealed section of Nethercote Road.
Heavy vehicles are being parked up until the highway reopens.
Motorists are advised to follow directions of emergency services and traffic crews and allow plenty of extra travel time.
The Princes Highway in the Jigamy Creek area is becoming notorious for crashes especially during wet weather and the area recorded 40mm of rain in the 24 hours from Wednesday morning to Thursday morning with most of it overnight.
