Doug and Erin Wilcock from Preston Rise Square Meaters Noggerup embarked on their second Perth Royal Show, leaving on September 21, with ten head of cattle two Heifer, cow and calf, two Steers and two Bulls On Saturday September 24, Preston Rise Square Meaters Stud was in the main ring at 10.00am in the first class category with Preston Rise claiming second and third place sashes with Preston Rise Lucy and Preston Rise Leanne. “We are very excited to be competing again this year after good success in 2015 and claiming Supreme Exhibit in Canberra earlier this year,” Mrs Wilcock said.  Grand Champion Square Meater Female was taken out by Meta Park Heidi with Meta Park Marshmallow at foot. Onto the Bull judging Preston Rise Square Meaters Stud presented a young 12 month old bull Preston Rise Lycettjax and a 15 month old bull Preston Rise Longfella both bulls winning their class on going on to be judged for grand champion Square Meaters Bull up against other class winners. Lycettjax the younger of the two bulls at 12 months old was awarded the Grand Champion Square Meater Bull for 2016. Erin and Doug Wilcock said he was a surprise package but for a young bull was showing some great potential the judges’ comments confirmed this saying he was a great bull calf with excellent muscling and was very sure on his feet. Later in the day Preston Rise Lycettjax was to be judged for Specialty Breeds Interbreed Supreme Bull up against three other Bulls from different breeds Preston Rise Lycettjax was awarded the Specialty Interbreed Supreme Bull once again leaving owner Doug and Erin Wilcock extremely excited and proud to have taken this award two years in a row. On the Sunday of the competition Preston Rise was back to the Judging ring for the Led Steer Competition and had two entries in the lightweight class with Preston Rise Lou claiming 5th place on the hoof and then competing in the Breed Class of three representing the Square Meater Breed along with animal from Meta Park Square Meaters and Kelmscott Senior High School the Square Meater Group of three claiming 2nd place. Little did Doug and Erin Wilcock know that by Friday the results from the hook competition would deliver them with the award for Grand Champion Carcase with a score of 94.29 Doug Wilcock said this was very prestigious and great for the Square Meater breed and for his stud Preston Rise Square Meaters and will be home on Monday accessing his herd for next year’s show. Preston Rise Square Meaters will have cattle on display at the Collie Show this year.
