Loyalty, commitment, shared experiences and the importance of family have been key contributors in the enduring attachment of the couple, according to their daughter Sue Cochrane.
Don and Betty relocated from Sydney in 1954 when they were married and are well known in the local district, now residing in care at Bupa Eden.
"Mum had never been to a farm before, it was a very big change for her, there was no running water in the house," Sue said.
"Dad's great grandfather owned the farm, it had been in the family a long time."
Betty was very actively involved in the community, enjoyed tennis and golf and was a sewing teacher at Candelo school for 27 years, as well as working at a motel in Merimbula for 22 years. The couple were both keen bowlers.
Don and Betty have two daughters, four grandchildren and three great grandchildren, with another one on the way.
