The Social Justice Advocates (SJA) of the Sapphire Coast, Forces for Nature group, is holding a meeting for anyone interested in being part of its second group solar buy-in, Envision 2.
The first Envision project reached 30 solar installations and as a result Lakeside Electrical agreed to donate a free installation to a community group, in this case the Pambula Surf Life Saving Club.
Forces for Nature member Wendy Wait said the group wants to repeat the process and get another free installation for a community group.
"This is a fantastic initiative between SJA and Lakeside Electrical and is supported by Clean Energy for Eternity. Our aim again is to get 30 people taking up this initiative as with every 30 solar installs a free install is given to a community building by Lakeside Electrical," Ms Wait said.
President of the Pambula Surf Life Saving Club Ann Smith said the solar system was a very timely donation.
"We have lost all our fundraising abilities and our revenue has gone to zero. We can only reduce our overheads," Ms Smith said.
The club will receive a 3.7kw system which should provide between 13-14kw hours of electricity a day. Ms Wait said this is expected to deal with most of the clubs power requirements.
"We are also hoping to get a grant for an underground water tank which would help make our community fire resistant," Ms Smith said.
While the club cannot be used as an evacuation centre because of the single road out, it can become a more self-sufficient shelter, Ms Smith explained.
"The Forces for Nature group was initially inspired by Tathra's Clean Energy for Eternity and the Totally Renewable Yackandandah group whose aim is to become a town powered by 100 per cent renewable electricity whilst moving towards a fossil free, clean energy source," Ms Wait said.
"If you would like more information come along to the meeting or contact Lakeside Electrical direct, quoting that you are part of the SJA Forces for Nature solar group buy, Envision 2," she said.
"Lakeside Electrical will then send you the proposed solar package and complete a site inspection to determine individual solar needs."
The company will talk about a standard 5.18kw solar package which on average produces 21kw hour per day and outline a costing for this package. Ms Wait said the payback time for a system like this was between three and five years.
Anyone attending the meeting is asked to bring along three to four electricity bills to the session. Lakeside Electrical will talk about solar for commercial properties too. More information from Wendy Wait at forcesfornature@sjasc.org.au
