Virginia Moschella began teaching weekly painting classes four weeks ago. They have enjoyed such a positive response from the community, her classes are now expanding to Pambula.
With 15 years of visual arts teaching experience behind her, the COVID pandemic and its impact on mental health have been a motivating factor for Ms Moschella to start up regular classes and workshops.
Having relocated to Eden about a year ago Ms Moschella recently decided it was time get out in the community more.
"Painting is very therapeutic, it engages the mind in ways that can help us deal with daily life better.
"Because of the pandemic, people have had less to do, now my ambition is to encourage people to be creative.
"It's about learning a new skill and feeling happy, don't worry about what you can do or can't do - it's a social environment and at the moment we all live in a little bubble, isolated because of the pandemic."
Two-hour classes for adults are scheduled on Saturday mornings, and two-hour classes for kids aged 7+ in the afternoons.
One woman involved in the painting group travels from Bombala every Saturday to join the class, while others come from Pambula and Merimbula.
"A lot of women don't have social networks, this is a great way for them to connect with others - it would be great to see some men join the group too!
"I chose to hold the classes at Eden Log Cabin because of its heritage value to the community, it's underutilised - people can enjoy the aesthetics of the historic site while they enjoy painting.
"It's so heartwarming, to be able to pass on the passion and love I have for creating art," Ms Moschella said.
A silk painting workshop will also be offered in September.
A free online art class will take place on August 24 via Facebook, giving people the opportunity to build their confidence, even if they prefer to stay at home.
Classes at Pambula are in the Old Courthouse on Wednesdays from 10am until 2pm.
Due to COVID there is a strict limitation of 10 people per class, with prior registration and appropriate social distancing.
