Home to the Eden Soccer, Australian Rules, Cricket, Netball and Tennis Clubs, in addition to the town's skatepark, the sporting precinct is due for upgrades to a number of its recreational areas and, excitingly, has been the subject of state and federal government funding in recent times.
To assist with planning and delivering these proposed developments, Bega Valley Shire Council (BVSC) staff have worked with the Barclay Street Sportsground Committee and other stakeholder groups in coordinating the preparation of the masterplan to capture each separate element and ensure a cohesive and workable space for all to enjoy.
Leisure and recreation coordinator, John Turville, said the masterplan will create a vibrant and cohesive recreational and sporting precinct for Eden and the wider Bega Valley community.
"The masterplan promotes inclusivity and has been developed with the goal of welcoming as many people and groups as possible," Mr Turville said.
"Endorsement of this plan now enables us to make progress on delivering some of the key elements, which include a new pavilion in the north eastern corner of the precinct to service the cricket, AFL, netball and tennis clubs, an upgrade to the Soccer clubhouse, a major upgrade to the skatepark, the construction of a new all-inclusive playspace, the establishment of a set down area for the cruise ship shuttle bus service, a memorial garden and a network of pathways to link these disparate recreational elements together."
Council said community consultation will be undertaken with relevant stakeholders and the wider community to inform further detailed design work on each of these funded upgrades.
