It seems the Bridezilla of the 1980s has picked up her taffeta meringue dress, stepped into her tin can-clad Datsun and sped off down the street out of the wedding scene, taking her pink cummerbund husband and flock of bridesmaids with her.

According to local wedding experts we are now in the era of "anti-bride" and you can learn all about her and what makes for a modern wedding at the Something Blue Bespoke Wedding Fair being held this Sunday, May 26 at Robyn's Nest in Merimbula.

Fortunately the anti-bride seems pretty relaxed. Mother-daughter team Cate Haigh and Carla Ellwood of CC Bridal Pambula said the first thing they do when a bride-to-be steps into their Pambula boutique is ask where and how the wedding is going to take place.
"Thirty-five years ago, 95 per cent of marriages happened in a church," said Ms Haigh.
"It's rare you get a church wedding these days. People get married in all sorts of places now, beaches, gardens and even rivers."
Ms Haigh said they recently designed a dress for a woman who was getting married in a river.
"We created the hem line just below the knees, it didn't make any difference she still looked a million dollars."
Wedding celebrant Jessica O'Donnell from Jessica Elizabeth Celebrant said, "It's like couples want to share their love with a bit more of a personalised twist and no two weddings are ever the same".
"I recently met a woman who wanted to get married in her jeans and sneakers. Not everyone wants to wear the traditional dress anymore."
There is something for everyone when it comes to weddings these days. Newly engaged romantics, anti-brides and wedding lovers are urged to head to Robyn's Nest, from 10.30am until 3pm, for a once-a-year opportunity to meet and mingle with the region's very best wedding experts.
Tickets are $10 per person and include a glass of bubbly on arrival, Something Blue tote bag and a ticket into the raffle to win a romantic weekend getaway.
