I've been back for ten years, but lived here for a few years when I was 17. I grew up in Tassie but I spent the entire two months of summer holidays every year here with my grandparents. My first job, when I was 13 was at the fish and chip shop at the wharf.
What do you like most about your job?
I feel extremely fortunate to be managing the visitor information centre. Eden holds a very special place in my heart, from childhood memories and strong family links to the town's history, so I love showing it off to the world! I'm very lucky to be working with an amazing team of volunteers who have such passion for Eden and are so knowledgeable.
What do you like least about your job?
That's a hard one, as there isn't much! Probably trying to get people to understand how much the use of information centres has changed over the years, and what a struggle it is for centres like ours to remain viable. It's important to be in touch with the latest tourism trends, needs, and wants, and to be able to adjust the business to ensure sustainability.
What's your favourite place in Eden and/or the Bega Valley?
I love quite a few spots in Ben Boyd National Park such as Haycock, Severs Beach and Saltwater. I love the rugged beauty Eden and surrounds offers, and the amazing beaches you can have completely to yourself. Aslings Beach and its rock pool are also a fave, as I have such great memories there as a kid.
If you won $1miillion what would you do first?
I actually think I'd be one of those boring people who just keep doing exactly the same even after winning a million dollars!
What is one thing you cannot live without?
My kids! My girls are aged 8 and 10 and my world really does revolve around them. I love spending time with them, exploring and seeing new places.
What are three words that describe Eden best?
Community. History. Wilderness.
What do you think Eden needs the most as a community?
Definitely to pull together more. The last twelve months have brought so much heartache to the town with the fires, COVID, and continual border closures and you'd think that would've brought us all together more, but unfortunately there's been some negativity, particularly towards new ideas and change, which is sad to see. It would be wonderful to have a tight, close little community that work together more and help lift each other up instead of pulling each other down.
