The community is being kept in the dark about the cost to access the new hut to hut walk in Ben Boyd. Despite multiple requests for this information (since November 2021) from the then Environment Minister Matt Kean all the way to the local Parks Area manager and the political aspirants, Fiona Kotvojs and Michael Holland, not one has been able, or willing to, reveal to the community the price that NPWS intends to charge to undertake the 'upgraded' walk. It is inconceivable that a government can spend $7.9 million of tax payer grant funding on this project and not answer this simple question.
Given the significant local and growing broad opposition to the 'hut' development, it begs the question who really wants this project and why; where is the demand driver coming from?
We have only spoken to one person who supports this development. Kane Weeks, Director, South Coast Branch, NPWS has asked that all correspondence about this matter be directed through Andrew Wall, Area Manager, NPWS. Matt Kean, Atticus Fleming, Deputy Secretary, NPWS have not responded directly to our questions. The Green Cape Fishing Alliance has been waiting for the answers to these questions since November 2021. Construction of the Light to Light Walk will commence on April 27 and we believe this government has no social licence to proceed until the community is fully informed about the project and the cost to access what was once freely available to everyone.
Well, this by-election is not just about the candidates in my eyes it is about how the current NSW government is managing our health system. I am and will always be an activist for safe health services in this state. Nurses/ midwives and allied health services across NSW have risen to the challenges of the global pandemic, keeping our communities safe and our public hospitals running. Unfortunately, our health system is deteriorating, and we are buckling under the pressure, this government continues to ignore the nursing professionals' recommendations: had they listen earlier we may have had a more robust and resourced health service.
So, from that perspective there is only one solution remove the current government. Enough is enough it is time for politicians and governments to listen to the evidence that front line workers say, we know what is happening on the floor, we know what OUR patients require. The evidence is out there the Liberal government just continue to ignore it, ratios work, more nurses on the floor means improved patient outcomes.
You can't build a hospital without foundations. You can't build a hospital without its nurses Because nurses are the foundation.
Every 10 minutes an Australian suffers a heart attack. Sadly, many do not survive with 48 Australians dying every single day from heart disease - someone's family member, wife, husband, or special friend that means the world to them.
The simple fact is that there is still so much for us to learn about heart disease and research saves lives. Heart Research Australia aims to reduce the devastating impact heart disease has on families and the community by supporting world-class and emerging researchers. That's why this February we invite all Australians to get involved with REDFEB, heart health awareness month, to raise much-needed funds for ground-breaking research into heart disease.
