There have been reports of the species off Bermagui and near the continental shelf off Merimbula.
Just weeks ago deep drop angling at 500-600 metres had reports of blue eye trevalla and ocean perch.
In regular fishing news, the club has reports of swarms of clear to whitish jelly like blobs washed up on local beaches. These are salps which seem to bloom or swarm mostly in springtime. Even though they look similar to jellyfish these are zooplankton of the subphylum of Tunicata. Most ocean fish love to eat them.
Good size flathead and gummy shark can be taken at 22 fathoms just off Middle Beach between Short Point and Long Point. Australian salmon makes a handy bait. Nearby towards Long Point there are good morwong and snapper, try pilchard or squid bait. Ocean flathead are also reported at 20 fathoms of Turingal Point and along the coast as far as Long Point.
Now is the time for drummer off our headlands but be careful of heavy seas. Try prawns or cunjevoi bait.
Anglers fishing the Haycock and Horsehoe reefs report a few snapper and morwong. Don't forget to use burley while anchored. Micro jigs, pink to reddish soft plastics work well and also pilchard baits on a paternoster rig.
In the Pambula River Australian salmon and good tailor are available trolling, try clear soft plastics emulating white bait. Salmon are also about off our beaches, best near the top of the run-in tide early morning and evening, look for run out gutters. Try triple gang hooked pilchards as bait or if you want to cast 50gm blue coloured metal lures.
In the Merimbula Lake there are some lovely trevally in the main channel at Spencer Park and tailor, trevally and dusky flathead in the Top Lake. Most of the Bega River has cleared up following the past weeks rains. Dusky flathead have reported from Mogareeka. Try 180cm glide lures in the shallows.
