The state member for Bega Andrew Constance confirmed new COVID-19 cases in the Southern NSW Local Health District (SNSWLHD), including one in Batemans Bay.

Health authorities advised Mr Constance about the positive case in Batemans Bay as well as one in Cooma on Monday morning.

Mr Constance said contact tracing was underway and NSW Health would provide more information about the new cases later today.

"There is no doubt this is spreading to our region which is bad news for us all," he said.

In the meantime, Mr Constance urged anyone with symptoms to get tested, and for the community as a whole to continue booking their vaccination appointments.

"It's vitally important we all look for the signs, any sign of a cold or fever please get tested," he said.

"At the same time, please everybody get vaccinated.

"We are in lockdown for a reason so please minimise your travel, please be vigilant and get tested, get vaccinated and wait for public health announcements to follow."

A spokesperson for SNSWLHD said the cases were brand new and contact tracing had just started when Mr Constance made the announcement.

"NSW Health will announce them at 11am and hopefully we will have some details to share later today," the spokesperson said.

This morning's announcement marks the first cases detected in Batemans Bay for more than a year.
