In the wake of Black Summer bushfires, Eden Community Access Centre was awarded $300,000 from Resilience NSW to develop a Disaster Preparedness, Recovery and Resilience Strategic plan (DPRRSP) for Eden and its surrounding villages.
Community members are now invited to express their interest in joining the Disaster Preparedness Committee to contribute to the development of the DPRRSP plan, a community-led initiative.
The committee will be made up of representatives from local emergency services and emergency response agencies, community services, community groups, and the small business and tourism sector.
Disaster Preparedness coordinator Jodie Stewart is facilitating the formation of the committee and said joining was an opportunity to have your voice heard and be an advocate for your community.
"It's essential we have community representation, this plan needs to be informed by local knowledge, it is imperative to get local voices," Jodie said.
Central to the role of voluntary committee members is to provide direction and leadership in development of a strategic plan.
"It is also to provide advice and guidance on how to engage the community to participate in the project," Jodie said.
"This is a community-led disaster preparedness response, and they know our community best.
"We would like very broad representation, it is a plan for Eden and all the surrounding villages and all community members are invited to participate."
The committee will meet once a month and it is anticipated that the commitment to participate will be roughly two hours per month.
