Unit commander Patricia Daly said they needed more people from Eden who could be first responders in the case of emergencies.
"We are running a public information night at Eden SES on Thursday, January 14 at 5.30 pm - specifically aimed at people in the Eden township, who are able and willing to respond, with the SES, to emergency rescues in the local area," Ms Daly said.
"The information night will explain what the SES has to offer, in the way of training and equipment, to enable volunteers to respond to calls for help for road crash rescue and vertical rescue.
"It will also explain what time commitment is required to participate in the required training and then to be available for call outs," Ms Daly explained.
The NSW SES are first responders in this area and in the event of a road crash, crews work to stabilise vehicles, administer primary first aid and extract casualities for further medical attention.
"Our primary role as first responders is in the event of floods, storms and tsunami and also as a road crash rescue team. We also carry out vertical rescues for people and animals," Ms Daly said.
However Ms Daly explained there were other important roles including support roles, stores admin, maintenance, duty phone and computer work. Free training can provide volunteers with nationally recognised qualifications. She urged anyone interested to attend the meeting at the SES unit in Warriga St, behind Mitre 10 on January 14.
