Subject to ongoing discussions and agreement with Port Authority, the relocation of the Eden VIC offers significant advantages to all parties and the community, manager Deb Richardson said..
"While the current location of Eden VIC works well in regards to highway visibility and parking for RVs, it is becoming increasingly obvious that Snug Cove, with the new cruise wharf and proposed Welcome Centre, along with the Revitalising Eden project, led by Port Authority that includes the Safe Harbour Project and precinct development, will become the focal point for visitors to Eden and the Sapphire Coast," Ms Richardson said.
"A survey undertaken by Tourism Research Australia in 2011 on behalf of Sapphire Coast Tourism indicated that 34 per cent of visitors to the Sapphire Coast visited Snug Cove.
"Based on current visitor numbers of 1,033,000 to the Sapphire Coast it is estimated that approximately 350,000 visitors visit Snug Cove annually.
"In addition, the relocation will provide an opportunity to showcase Eden and the Sapphire Coast to an estimated 40,000 - 80,000 international and domestic cruise ship passengers."
Ms Richardson said the proposed VIC relocation would also free up additional space for the council to expand the Eden library at its current location.
