They play 30s and 40s jazz and swing hits through to infectious pop, disco, funk, soul-infused tunes from the 80s and 90s that will make the dance floor a hard place to leave. They are, currently, the only band on the Far South Coast who can showcase this range of music styles in one show. Their performances in recent Merimbula Jazz Festivals are always extremely popular.
Band leader, Candy McVeity (Kitty) has enthusiastically and stylishly melded a mix off gifted musicians who love playing together in the band of thieves.
The line-up incorporates Kristy Ellis on keyboards who has "done time for stealing keys and knowing too many chords". The rest of the band all have more than 30 years of experience; John McVeity (bass), Conrad McMullen (guitars), and John Fraser (drums) who has "done time for skin beating". On the front line is Kitty, marshalling the vocals with alto saxophone.
They will have the addition of Bega vocalist Matt Kimber who has been singing for the past 29 years, during which time he has won numerous vocal competitions around Australia. He will sing in his laid back style accompanying 'Kitty Kat and the Band of Thieves'.
Cost is $15 for jazz club members and $20 for visitors with music commencing at 7.30pm. Bookings can be made with Aileen/Kevin Walsh (64959853), by email at bookings@downsouthjazzclub.org.au, or will be available on the night at the door. The Club Sapphire bistro opens at 6pm with its extensive menu.
