On January 23 of this year, Member for Bega Andrew Constance announced $10million in funding would be allocated to seal the 27 kilometres of road between Eden, Burragate and Towamba. The work would include sealing/resealing, pavement stabilisation, new guardrail and drainage.
It was reported at the time he hoped work would start on the road this year, estimating it would take six to 12 months before construction began.
However, Ms Whiter states work on the road can't wait; labelling it as an "accident just waiting to happen".
"The issue has gone far beyond talking about a dusty old road with just a few potholes. It's dangerous, what's it going to take? A tragic accident before anything is done about it?
"The condition is beyond bad. When dust gets up from a passing car you cant see what's in front or behind. You have to pull over and wait for the dust to settle before you can see again," Ms Whiter said.
"There's also ongoing vehicle wear and tear, not to mention people's health," she said claiming an elderly resident's car constantly filling up with dust has resulted in breathing problems.
Ms Whiter and her husband Fred run Whiter's Butchery. She added having clean vehicles for meat deliveries was vital for their business and they are spending copious amounts money on public car wash fees.
"We can't deliver anywhere with a dirty vehicle," she said.
"We're not the only ones, people are fed up. We pay $2000 a year in rates and were lucky to get a lawn mowed in Towamba let alone the road graded.
"Where does that money go? They say they've got the funding but we haven't seen any progress what so ever."
She has called for an urgent public meeting with Bega Valley Shire Council Mayor Kirsty McBain to be held at the Towamba Hall this coming Sunday November 3 at 2pm.
Ms Whiter said local emergency services, schools, bus lines, businesses, community groups and residents have all thrown in their support and will be asking Cr McBain for a commitment to seal the road immediately.
