UPDATE, 9pm: The highway has now reopened to traffic following a two-car crash earlier this afternoon. Motorists are urged to drive safely and to the conditions.

UPDATE 6.50pm Saturday March 16

An 80-year-old man is understood to be in a critical condition, NSW Police media have said following the crash on the Princes Highway near Eden.

Diversions of traffic through Nethercote Road are believed to be causing some issues as the road which is unsealed for some 3.5kms has become very slippery, particularly for two wheel drive vehicles following the heavy rain today.

The alternative sealed route is via Mount Darragh Road, turning left into Back Creek Road and emerging south of Eden on the Princes Highway.
