The two-day competition of wind power will feature everything from small dinghies right through to bigger keel boats. 

“We would really love to get some more boats involved,” event director Ted Dexter said. 

Anyone who owns a sailing boat is welcome, the club caters to small single-person dinghies up through the trailer-sailors and keel boats with some of the fleet around 36-feet-long.

There is good early interest, but Mr Dexter said the club wanted to welcome everyone on the weekend for some fun, challenging courses while taking in one of the most idyllic sailing spots on Australia’s east coast. 

Club publicity Gayl Cox said Eden was also one of the world’s best deep-water ports. 

“There are so many advantages to deep water sailing and there are few places better than Twofold to do it,” Ms Cox said. 

“It can be challenging, but it’s a great experience and rewarding. 

“The conditions are always variable, which makes it fantastic for the regatta.”

Mr Dexter said Twofold also had a unique nature of being able to capture winds from any direction. 

“Ideal winds for sailing are from 10-20 knots, but it really doesn’t matter which way it’s blowing,” he said. “You can sail with the wind from any direction.”

Both Mr Dexter and Ms Cox said it was great to see a new generation of sailors coming on board with crews from Eden High and the Snowy Mountains showing up well. 

“We had eight kids from the Snowy Mountain High School sailing the Bics and X3s on Friday and then they got a run on the keel boats Saturday,” Mr Dexter said. 

“And there is a group of about four Eden High students taking part in the Tuesday lessons; they’re very keen and good.”

The high school was recently donated a boat after its annual visit to the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia in Sydney and Mr Dexter said the school had a team primed for the weekend. 

Ms Cox said sailing was “not an elitist sport by any stretch” and said that sailors that want to have a crack, but don’t own a boat could still be in luck with some boats free for use.

“People that want to sail a Bic or an X3 please contact us, we have three of each and we also have a couple of three-person Pacers,” Mr Dexter said. 

Mr Dexter said places were strictly limited and interested sailors should contact him directly before Friday.

Races will run on Saturday and Sunday with competition to finish around lunch time Sunday ahead of presentations. The headland lookout or the Bundian Way will provide good vantage points for spectators.
