The event to be held at the Eden Memorial Pool is shaping up to be an exciting addition to Eden’s long weekend calendar, not just for the swimming club but for local businesses also.
Eden Swimming Club president Melina Caldwell said it was expected around 500 people will be visiting town for the meet, with 110 competitors along with officials and their families.
Accommodation around town has been booking up fast with some places almost full to the brim.
Garden of Eden Caravan Park manager Lyn Carlson said they have been inundated with bookings. “The cabins are all booked out and we only have a few powered sites left.”
Eden Chamber of Commerce president Jenny Robb said events such as the swim meet give Eden a chance to “show off” what it can do.
“There has just been more and more positive stuff happening and Eden winning the swim meet is fantastic. It allows businesses and locals a chance to shine,” Ms Robb said. “The more events people bring to the town the better, Eden has hosted a wonderful season this year and events like this really add to our reputation.”
Swimming New South Wales events manager Shannon Smith said Eden Swimming Club’s application to host the event was “very strong” and was supported by the South Eastern Swimming Association.
“The [Eden] Swimming Club has a great facility and we are looking forward to them putting on a fantastic meet,” Ms Smith said.
