Hosted by the Light Car Club of Canberra, the rally event will use a mixture of local state forests and shire roads between Cooma and Bombala.
It’s expected 60 teams will be fighting it out for their final placings in the 2018 rally season.
The event will act as the final round in a number of championship series, not least of which the MTA NSW Rally Championship, East Coast Classic Rally Series and Techworkz Automotive ACT Regional Rally Series.
Monaro Stages Rally organisers are planning a 150-200km competitive event, which will start and finish in the Cooma Showground. The adjacent Cooma Bowling Club will be the final presentation venue.
Entry fees for the event will include a $15 contribution that will be distributed to the farmers who have allowed use of the sections of shire roads their farms run along.
Organisers said these farmers are in the grip of drought and “most of them will have to move stock to allow competitors to race, so the contribution is a small way we can say thank you”.
Already registered to compete in both the NSW Rally Championship and East Coast Classic is Peter Dimmock in his Datsun 240Z.
“Dimmock returns to rallying in 2018 after a 20-plus year break from driving,” LCCC has posted on its Monaro Stages Facebook page.
“Mind you, four years of that time has been spent building this car.
“Good to see this champion back in the drivers seat again.”
At the other end of the spectrum, newcomers Andy Pierce and Tony Bottrall have also signed up already with their Nizzan Gazelle for the NSW Rally Championship, Clubman Series and ACT Regional Series.
It will be Pierce’s second year competing and only his sixth rally ever, but they had a strong finish in the 2017 event.
“A new and low budget team, looking to have fun and maybe give some of the more seasoned teams a bit of a scare,” is their entry brief.
“Focused on: not crashing again and finishing more rallies while building up driving skills and rally speed.”
More information, competitor details and entry forms are available on the Kosciuszko Automotive Monaro Stages Rally Facebook page and the Light Car Club of Canberra website.
