The gala black tie event hosted by Eden’s Chamber of Commerce, saw around 140 guests come together in masked magic to honour and recognise Eden’s vibrant and flourishing business and volunteer community.
Distinguished guests included Bega Valley Shire Mayor Kristy McBain, Bega MP Andrew Constance and Member for Eden-Monaro Mike Kelly.
With more than 171 nominees the awards were a reflection of Eden’s strength in community.
Cr McBain said communities like Eden don’t just happen and shouldn’t be taken for granted. The local volunteers category of the awards had an overwhelming number of nominees.
“They are the back bone of the community,” Cr McBain said.
Presenting his keynote speech, Dr Kelly commended Eden’s small business sector for their hands up attitude, noting that running a small business is no small feat.
“It takes blood, sweat and tears, which is inherent in Eden’s can do attitude.”
Dr Kelly saluted Eden’s voluntary workers as a ‘tour de force’ with the ability to reach out to those in need and support each other in times of hardship.
He said there were exciting times ahead for Eden. He said the future for kids is looking promising with high tech companies investing in the area and foresees an unlimited future of growth in the region.
