The Tigerettes suffered a narrow 10-6 loss at the hands of the Bombala High Heelers in a close game, but were resplendent in a second encounter on the day, thumping the Tathra Phoenix 74-0.
The Bombala club president said he was happy to see the High Heelers take the points and conceded that the Tigerettes had put up a brilliant challenge.
“The girls played really well, the Merimbula-Eden women were really competitive and we had to work hard to get a win,” Colin Ryan said.
“A good hard game is good experience.”
However, the Tigerettes wasted no time in their second encounter, scoring off almost every set with Eden’s Kiarna Mitchell getting the first points of the game.
The Eden contender was also sensational with the boot as the Tigerettes secured 11 conversions from 13 attempts.
Tarsha Gales 9s competitor Tamika Millard was a standout with three tries in the game, but Hayley Spink made her presence felt with two tries.
Alex Spivey and Amber Kennedy also ran rampant with respective tries as the Tigerettes ran rampant over their opposition.
In other games, the Bulldogs reserves piled on a 40-4 win over Tathra with Matt Evelyn and Dylan Fletcher standouts for the home side.
In the headline first grade fixture, the Blue Heelers mustered a two-point win, prevailing against the Bulldogs 30-28.
Tempers flared near the finish of the first half with the makings of a brawl set to erupt as the whistle blew on the first half.
The Bulldogs had landed a try on the Bombala fringes and both sides were becoming increasingly frustrated with the hard-running physical nature of the game.
As tensions cooled, Corey Schafer slotted the conversion and the Bulldogs levelled the odds 12-12 at the break.
Bombala club president Colin Ryan said a hard-fought game was a better experience for fans.
“It was close the whole way and could have gone either way.
“We just got there in a good, hard game and [that is] much better than a one sided affair.”
He commended the Bulldogs on their fast, but potent youthful line-up.
The speed was where the Bulldogs struck on the day with a hat-trick to winger Jake Mikula, while zippy fullback Kyle Shepherdson also made his presence felt.
The pick-up of former Eden half John Aldridge has also added attacking range as one of the best kickers in Group 16.
With consistent attacking, the Bulldogs held the edge 28-24 late into the piece, but Heelers fullback Alex Rosten found the line with the kick sealing the win.
The Tigerettes and Bulldogs play the Roosters in Bega on Saturday afternoon.
