Bruce Lyon, the chairman and managing director of Lyon Group Australia, said he had submitted plans to the Bega Valley Shire Council (BVSC) to extend the Seahorse Inn with a 24-room hotel.
Mr Lyon said this would “set a new tone” for accommodation in Eden.
“What we are proposing will surpass the normal standard and take accommodation in Eden further upmarket,” he said.
Because of the Seahorse Inn’s heritage status the Lyon Group have also employed the services of a heritage consultant who is helping to guide the development.
Mr Lyon said the decision to extend on the premise was made due to demand, and the desire to continue to develop Eden as a premier tourist destination.
“We have 10 rooms at present that is at 90 per cent occupancy. I am confident that the demand is there,” Mr Lyon said.
“This development represents an opportunity to move forward with tourism in the area.”
While the plans for the proposed hotel rooms are currently being assessed by BVSC, the plans for the caravan park will be submitted in the foreseeable future, Mr Lyons said.
This development represents a significant investment in the area that will help to generate short-term and long-term employment, Mr Lyon said.
“We are attempting to create economic growth, employment and opportunity in the area because I feel that it is a fantastic part of the world.”
