It was a testing day for eight AFL teams who competed in the early autumn heat of this years Lightning Cup in Eden on Saturday, March 24.

In the women’s first round Eden Whalers finished strong beating Merimbula 80 – 0. Narooma Lions had a close encounter with the Pambula Girls, results in favour of Narooma 32 – 21.
The men’s first round, Pambula put up a fight against Eden finishing on top 59 – 27. Lakes Entrance were too good for last years grand final runners up Narooma with a finishing score of 76 – 35.
Round two, the women had a close game between Eden and Narooma. The Eden girls showed their form from last years grand final finishing on top 21 – 20. Pambula girls played a tight game as a team finishing ahead of Merimbula 64 – 6.
Men’s round two, Pambula go down to Narooma 47 – 34, with Narooma showing some good outside running. Lakes entrance dominated over Eden 94 – 18, the Lakes class really showing on the field.
In the final women’s round Narooma were too strong for Merimbula 83 – 7 but some positive signs with the Merimbula girls kicking a goal and showing high spirits in all games. Eden put out a tough game against Pambula with Eden proving to be too strong 33 – 13.
In round three of the men’s, Eden put up a fight against Narooma which wasn’t enough to bring them out on top, Narooma secured their position in the final 68 – 31. Pambula took on Lakes Entrance in their final game, with a few injured players Pambula battled on but went down 78 – 18.
A thrilling final saw Narooma play Lakes Entrance with the interstate side taking the victory 81 – 45.
