A long injury delay has marred an otherwise successful Group 16 All-Stars day.
The women’s match was cut short after Eden-based Lucie Elton suffered a suspected neck injury during the second half of the match.
Elton, who has since been cleared of any damage, was kept motionless for approximately 45 minutes while trainers and physios waited for an ambulance.
Group 16 Chairman Allan Wilton praised the response from the trainers.
“They’re very well trained,” he said. “We’ve got to have these trainers and first-aid people, or else we can’t play.
“They handled the situation very well; it’s always better to err on the side of caution.”
Wilton said he has been in touch with Elton, who described the situation as “embarrassing.”
“She had a scan last night and there was no damage,” he said. “She’s fine, fit as a fiddle, and raring to go again.
“Injury is a downside to any contact sport, it’s one of those things.
“We don’t like to see it happen, but unfortunately sometimes it does.”
