Officials said it was an outstanding success with an abundance of fresh ocean flathead up for grabs during the auction in pleasant conditions.
Organisers said the day could not be possible without the support of the numerous business sponsors, who have been thanked in the advertisement on
Overall 92 bags of fish were auctioned with excellent bidding response. All proceeds of the Auction are given to a local charity and getting the money will be the Merimbula Volunteer Rural Fire Brigade who had their fire engine on display and helped at the auction running the large public barbecue.
The major raffle was drawn just after the auction and the lucky winner was Robert Borch of Mallacoota scoring himself a new kayak, while Ken Budnick of Kalaru and Heather Pait each won a stand up paddle board.
In regular fishing news, ocean flathead both sand and tiger are really on the chew off Merimbula, Tura Beach and particularly in the area about 10km north of Tathra.
Morwong remain on the chew about the reefs and some larger ones have been landed off White Rock out of Kianinny and the full moon means gummy shark are out in the same areas.
Large kingfish are also reported off Tura Headland and Tathra wharf. Salmon are about but patchy.
Luderick continue to grace the Merimbula wharf early morning and late evening, together with squid and the occasional kingfish.
The lakes and estuaries are firing with a good run of dusky flathead with large bream about the oyster racks. Merimbula’s Top Lake can also produce trevally, tailor and mullet.
There are also good schools of whiting in all the estuaries and they react to worms, nippers, poppers and hard plastics, try all along the sand flats.
The club maintains an open house at Spencer Park every Friday evening from 6.30pm. Visitors are welcome. All inquires John McKay on 0427 639 585 or www.mbgalac.com.au.
