The southern whale migration is off to an early start with Cat Balou Cruises sighting many pods of whales just off the coast at Eden over the past couple of weeks.

Most whales seen so far have been sub adults with mothers and their young calves expected to start arriving later in the season.
Cat Balou, in conjunction with Topmill P/L, have released their 2017 Australian Whale Watching Calendar with all photos taken aboard Cat Balou last season.
Meanwhile, the Sapphire Coast Marine Discovery Centre and National Parks and Wildlife Service had a successful launch of their shore-based whale watching project at Rotary Lookout last Thursday.
SCMDC manager Kerryn Wood said about 60 people – the majority of them tourists including ‘grey nomads’ and international visitors – took part and were excited to see numerous pods of whales from the vantage point.
‘Spot that Whale’ will take place again today, Thursday, September 1, between 10am to 12pm, weather permitting.
