The Access4All app lists the categories of accommodation, services, transport, equipment, places to eat and things to do such as bowling or parks on the Far South Coast. 

Along with this list, it will have a star rating system that assesses aspects of accessibility so people can get a sense of how successful a venue is when it comes to inclusion.   

Developed by Far South Coast-based 2pi Software, the company’s director Carsten Eckelmann said the feature that sets this app apart from others of its type is the filter that users can adapt to suit their needs.

For instance, someone who has a visual disability can use the filter to find accommodation or activities that will cater for their more specific needs. 

“No other app has a filter that is that extensive,” Mr Eckelmann said.

The app was a collaboration between Sapphire Support Services and Pambula Rotary, who received a grant from NSW Surf Life Saving for the project.

“We do a lot of supported travel and one of the things we have found is while a venue might say it has a disabled access room on its website, there might be a shower they can’t get over or the room might be too small to move around,” Sapphire Support Services managing director Michaela Pascolutti said. 

“We thought it would be great if there was something available that was more readily descriptive.” 

Pambula Rotary’s Lynne Koerbin said the star rating was part of her organisation’s aim for inclusion and improved access for everyone was good for business.

“Lots of people other than those with disabilities need access, such as older people, or families with prams,” she said.

“We’re trying to get the message out to businesses that it’s in their interest to improve things.” 

Access4All will launch in Spring and be available to download for free on both iPhones and Android devices.

While it will start with services and business on the Far South Coast, the creators have the view to expand it nation-wide and have already received interest in the project.

2pi Software has developed several apps including Safe Around Me, designed to help keep women safe from violence and the first to be created wholly in the Bega Valley as well as the “SkillBot” Skills for Life app that contains information and advice to assist young people navigating life’s ups and downs and transitioning to independent living.
