Member for Bega Andrew Constance announced $27.5 million in funding for the port, together with $250,000 to get work underway on the fire station.
“I’m pleased to confirm funding in the budget for a new Eden fire station,” Mr Constance said earlier today.
“This is a project that has an estimated total cost of over $1 million, and we have $250,000 confirmed in 2016-17 to get it off the ground,” he said.
It is a year since the poor facilities at the fire station attracted Mr Constance’s attention, with the station’s superintendent and retained firefighters saying it failed to meet the needs of a modern fire station.
The port project attracted $27.5 million in funding, on top of $1.5 million in the 2015-16 budget.
Today’s budget allocation for the port was the formalisation of the $29 million announcement made by Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull and Premier Mike Baird during a visit to Eden on May 23.
“The Port of Eden redevelopment will ensure the world’s largest cruise ships can visit our region, delivering a major boost for tourism,” Mr Constance said today.
“I’m delighted to confirm $27.5 million in this year’s budget to get on with this project which is so vital for Eden’s local economy.
“This is a project that will deliver jobs during construction and long-term benefits through increased visitor numbers,” he said.
Treasurer Gladys Berejiklian’s second budget predicted a surplus of $3.7 billion in the coming financial year.
Mr Constance said the leadership of the Baird government had ensured that NSW was the number one economy in the nation, and Eden was now benefiting from that strength.
