Engineers from Bega Valley Shire Council are inspecting the bridge as their highest priority Tuesday morning.
Emergency operations officers are urging residents not to attempt to cross the bridge.
Council spokesperson Terry Dodd said they could not guarantee the safety of the old structure.
“Do not attempt to cross it until it has been declared safe,” he said.
“As soon as we can access it, we’ll be there to check it.”
NSW SES liaison Steff Wills thanked those isolated for their continued patience and urged caution as waters receded.
“You just don’t know what damage the water has done,” she said.
“ The last thing we want is to be called to a rescue for that one person who just couldn’t wait till morning.
“Even if it looks like you can make it through, don’t.”
