As I was driving home from Wollongong last Saturday, I was listening to the description of a footy game.

The team I follow, loosely, was playing and at half-time they had a very handy lead.
But, during the third and fourth quarters, the opposition out-played my team totally and the handy lead turned into a real belting.
For the coach, and team members, this would have been a very disheartening result.
I have no idea as to the reasons for the way things changed for my team but, it seems to me that the principles which had been part of the first half of the game were gone and forgotten in the second half (together, with the other team playing much better?).
This is a reminder of a truth that applies to all parts of our lives.
We are to maintain focus through all our life, especially in our spiritual life.
We might start a relationship with God, through Jesus, and be as enthusiastic as we can possibly be, at the start.
Then, things happen in our life and we might lose concentration and not spend the time necessary on maintaining a close walk with God, through prayer, reading the Bible and fellowshipping with other Christians.
This must have been a hazard for early Christians, too.
The writer of a New Testament letter, Hebrews, writes the following:
"Let’s keep our eyes fixed on Jesus ... He didn’t give up because of the cross ... so don’t get discouraged and give up.”
Let’s all keep flat out for God, all the time.
