But it wasn’t just the year 7s who were new with five new teachers also joining the team. They are:
• Kate Mamone and Matt Neenan, technological and applied studies (TAS) and industrial arts,
• Robyn Wall and Rowan Drowley, English/ history, and
• Simone Kercher, human society and its environment (HSIE).
The new teachers are very excited about their postings.
"It’s a wonderful school and I’m looking forward to bringing in some new projects and designs,” Ms Mamone said.
Over the holidays the school hall was installed with wireless internet which will make it a more effective and up-to-date teaching space.
School captains Grace Knox and Xiu Chen Han, along with vice captains Emily Claxton and Claire McKenna are ready and focussed for their final year.
"Everybody just has to get in there and do it," Grace said.
"And just don't get too stressed," Emily added.
The outgoing EMHS class of 2014 performed exceedingly well with tertiary offers and placements coming through.
Michelle Bond, the school’s year advisor, said that 78 students completed the HSC, with 38 of those going to university.
And the spread of universities for this very successful cohort is widespread with students off to Brisbane, Melbourne, Wollongong, Canberra and Cairns.
A total of 24 students are taking a gap year in 2015, 13 students have gained apprenticeships or traineeships and eight students are enrolling in Bega TAFE.
Eight students have gone into full time employment and the rest of them are enrolled in Pathways and completing the HSC over a longer period of time.
Rachael Rogers is off to the University of Melbourne to pursue a Bachelor of Science majoring in genetics or biology.
She was lucky enough to receive a $22,000 accommodation scholarship to help with her moving and living costs.
“I’m very, very excited. I was very overwhelmed when I got it,” Rachael said.
