A novice event for newcomers to the sport will be held this Sunday at Yellowpinch.
Event organiser Dan Dakis said he trains regularly with some newcomers to the sport and wanted to promote lifting to anyone interested.
“It’s just a bit of an intro into the sport ... it’s to get a bit of awareness about the sport and get some people having a go,” Mr Dakis said.
The event will run in a full competition format across the three powerlifting styles of deadlift, squat and bench press.
Two fully accredited judges from Canberra will be on hand as well as some visiting lifters.
Mr Dakis said he was a member of Sapphire Coast Barbell, a powerlifting federation, but Sunday’s event will just be a locally run competition for amateurs.
“The event I am running is just for novices, it’s more about having a bit of fun.
“As long as you can do the three forms, anyone is welcome to compete,” he said.
Entry is $10 for competitors and spectators are more than welcome.
The event will be held on Sunday at 38 Yellowpinch Drive, Yellowpinch.
Weigh-in is from 9am and competition starts at 11am.
