The club is opening its doors to the public to promote surf lifesaving within the local community.
The day will showcase the activities that take place within the club, and ways that members of our local community can give, get involved and be safe.
As well as beach patrols, Pambula SLSC also do roving patrols using rescue boats and water craft, and constantly run courses so people can become surf lifesavers or learn other important lifesaving and life skills.
Sunday's program includes:
- 10.30am: surfboat display;
- 11am-1.00pm – surf club tours;
- 11.15am: rip display - dye on the water demonstrates rip action;
- 11.30am: board clinic; and
- 12.30pm: beach events.
Though the club already has a dedicated group of people who give up their time to keep our beach safe, they're always happy to have more members.
Anyone can join a surf club, and Pambula SLSC welcome all kinds of members from social members to patrollers.
Even if you don’t think you can patrol the beach, there are always roles within a club that need people to perform them.
Every role, whether it’s on or off the beach, helps to save a life.
There are a lot of things people of all ages can get out of joining a surf club – learning new skills, adopting or maintaining a healthy lifestyle, the satisfaction of doing a great service to the community and, importantly, making great friends.
When you join a surf club, you become part of a family.
The open day will also offer members (seniors and nippers) a chance to register in person.
Come along to the club and sign on for the year, as well as take part in some beach or surf activities.
A barbecue will be operating from 11am-1pm.
The surf club relies on the support of the public and local community to continue to put patrols on our beaches.
Rescue equipment is expensive and needs to be regularly replaced, and the facilities maintained to protect members.
So come down and show your support for the great work the club's volunteers do.
