With $2250 worth of prizes up for grabs, all creative types are invited to participate and turn trash into treasure by creating a unique artwork from recycled materials.
TRASHformation is a much-loved competition and ‘pop up’ exhibition that showcases all entries during the Eden Whale Festival in November.
This year’s prizes include the Cleanaway $1000 grand prize, the South East Arts $500 prize and a $250 prize from long-time supporter, RTG.
A new $500 schools prize, sponsored by South East Arts and Bega Valley Shire Council’s waste department, will be awarded to the school who produces the best large outdoor sculpture of a marine animal.
The winning entry will also be installed at the entrance of one of the BVSC waste and recycling depots.
“Last year, we had over 1000 people come through the exhibition, which shares space with the annual ‘Artists who Wood’ exhibition,” TRASHformation organiser Megan Luhrs said.
“TRASHformation is a fantastic display of creativity from preschool-aged children to adults who have fine-tuned their recycled craft.
“There’s always something suprising at TRASHformation, like the recycled foam shark that won the major Cleanaway prize last year.
“It was terrific to see the look on a year 8 student’s face when he was announced as the winner.
“The new schools challenge is also very exciting, and is for both primary and secondary schools to engage in.”
Entry is open to anyone living in the South East region, or in Mallacoota.
