Phil and Pat Green took over the sponsorship of the event when the Wilmott forest operation in Bombala closed.
The shield is a contest for members between the Bega, Bombala (now defunct) Cooma and Bermagui.
Each club formed teams to take part in the event and everyone was eager to perform for the final round of the year.
The shield, a 25 target point-score and a 50 target double barrel made up the program for the July shoot.
The club welcomed 24 shooters in spite of the cold windy conditions.
The feature event, the Wilmott/ Green Family Shield Handicap, saw the Bega one team of Shane Platts, John Walker, Ray Welch, Alf Niesar and John Siede take the prize with a combined score of 107/125.
In the individual section, George Adamopoulos shot 23/25 to take first.
Six shooters, Phil Body, Alf Niesar, John Walker ,Robert Taylor, Mick Diss and Doug Blewitt proceeded to a shoot-off for second and third after they all scored 22/25.
After a further nine targets, John Walker took second on 31/34 with Alf Niesar 30/34 in third.
The opening event of 25 target point-score saw Bega president Phil Body use one second barrel for a score of 74/75 and first in AA/A grade.
Regular Cooma visitor, Steve McIntyre took second with a score of 72/75.
Robert Taylor and John Gray shared the prizes in B grade.
Taylor claimed top spot on 69/75 over Gray’s 67/75.
C grade went to Michael Diss with a score of59/75 from runner-up Alex Wedutenko on 60/78.
The final effort was the 50 target double barrel.
AA shooters, Ray Welch and Steve McIntyre both shot 50/50, with Ray taking the prize 59/59 to Steve’s 58/59.
Craig Field showed form in B Grade to win with a clean 50/50.
John Gray and John Walker sorted out second with a further six targets, with Walker finishing in second place 53/56.
Michael Diss continued his good form for the day, winning C grade with a score of 45/50.
Gary Way celebrated his first Bega shoot, taking second on 42/50.
The high gun went to Phil Body with a score of 145/150 for the day.
Body thanked everyone who attended and all the volunteers who made the day a success, with special tribute to Gail in the office.
The shoot on August 3 will see the third round of the Fimac Engineering Handicap Shield, a 25 target double barrel and 50 target point-score competed for.
Practice is from 9am and competition from 10am.
