“The funding, to provide safe harbour status, is part of the port masterplan which Council and the community have developed and adopted,” Cr Taylor said.
“This is a great vote of confidence in the future of Eden and its community and I thank the community for its ongoing support for this project.
“Council’s thanks also go to the state government and to Treasurer and Member for Bega Andrew Constance for the foresight they have demonstrated with regard to Eden’s future.
“With Council’s $2 million and the federal government’s $10 million already in place, we are looking forward to a $10 million injection from the State Government for the development of infrastructure to be outlined in the Far South Coast Boating Plan.”
The NSW Government has also pledged $3million for the extension of the Port's breakwater wharf.
Cr Taylor said other announcements that will impact on the future of the Shire include the reduction of red tape for small business and payroll tax relief under the Jobs Action Plan.
Construction work on the SE Regional Hospital at Bega will continue as will work on the new ambulance station in the grounds of the new hospital
“It’s also good to see more support for people with disabilities, increased library expenditure, and increased funding for case workers in children’s services," he said
“These are all encouraging outcomes for the local community, and I look forward to seeing the positive knock-on effect they have on our economy and quality of life."
