The tournament, played over two rounds on May 24 and 25, will offer players in the region the opportunity to participate in a new and challenging competition format.
The Mallacoota Challenge features a modified points scoring system where points earned by a player during the round are added to his handicap to give him his total points tally for the day.
This is then added to his partner’s total to give the pair their team aggregate score.
The Mallacoota tournament also features a unique handicap adjustment rule to apply for day two.
Depending on just how well, or, how poorly, a player fares in the first round, he could have his playing handicap for day two increase or reduce by as many as seven strokes, although an adjustment of between one and four shots is the average norm.
All players will be advised of the exact handicap adjustment criteria at registration.
The highest two-ball aggregate score over the two days will take out the 2014 Mallacoota Challenge.
Naturally, as is the case in any other team aggregate type of competition, it’s essentially a matter of both team members having to score well to be in contention.
This year’s two-ball challenge winners will receive prizes with a value in excess of $500 each.
Awards also presented to the runners-up and third-placed teams, as well as overall best and runner-up individual awards; plus refreshments and closing barbecue.
A women’s two-ball team event, played under the same format and in conjunction with, but separate to, the Men’s Open Challenge, will be held on Sunday.
Entries are still being accepted for next week’s gala golfing weekend at Mallacoota.
