The $5000 fund is put aside to recognise and support local young people undertaking further education in the shire by funding seven scholarships for tertiary students.
Council’s community development officer Donna Campbell said the scholarships are an important way for Council shows its support in assisting in the development of skills and abilities of local young people.
“Council understands the importance that education plays in the lives of young people and therefore we have decided to offer a further round of scholarships this year,” she said.
“The tertiary scholarships are a great way of recognising individual students and supporting their educational endeavours.
“The scholarships are available to students aged 25 years and under, who are enrolled and attending a tertiary institution in a full-time capacity, and not in receipt of any other financial scholarship at this time.
“Offering the scholarships has social and economic benefits for the shire.
“It will raise the profile of successful applicants and promote further education and career opportunities for young local students.”
Preference for the scholarships will be given to applicants experiencing financial hardship.
There will be three $1000 scholarships for university students in the Bega Valley Shire, and four $500 scholarships for TAFE students also in the Bega Valley Shire.
