Mrs Whiter’s ticket was the first to be drawn in the raffle and she didn’t hesitate in choosing the rug over other major prizes donated by local artists and businesses.
A resident of Nullica Lodge in her later years, Mrs Greig was a well-known former textiles and home economics teacher in the Bega Valley, and founder of the Eden Spinners, before she passed away on -----.
Her last contribution was a collection of wool which had been coloured in warm hues using her own dyes.
Late last year the Spinners knitted it into the rug and donated it to Nullica Lodge.
“Wasn’t I lucky?” Mrs Whiter said of her win.
“We spun together and we all knitted the rug together – there was nothing else I would choose.”
Lodge residents, staff and families enjoyed browsing craft and pre-loved goods, entering competitions and enjoying a barbecue lunch on the grounds in perfect weather on Saturday.
Craft work by the residents was very popular, including covered coat hangers by 102-year-old Mary Young and plants grown by the Friends of Nullica
“We would like to thank everyone who helped make Nullica Lodge’s fair a success,” she said.
“Please accept this as our personal thank you.”
