“Projects of this size demand foresight and commitment, and for that we applaud the NSW government and Minister Andrew Constance,” Eden Cattle Bay Marina spokesman Bob Carter said..
“We welcome this as the first step in improving boating in Eden,” he said.
“Boating and Eden are the winners.”
A proposed development at Cattle Bay would “complete the boating scene at Eden with a much-needed world-class marina”, he said.
“With the Snug Cove wave attenuator out for EOIs and the cruise ship wharf extension well under way, the third piece of the jigsaw at Eden is to secure NSW government funding for a Cattle Bay wave attenuator to protect the marina at Cattle Bay,” he said.
Mr Carter said governments of all political persuasions across Australia routinely constructed and funded capital works to protect marinas.
“We look forward to the support of boating by the NSW government now carrying over to Cattle Bay,” he said.
Mr Carter said the Snug Cove Safe Harbour wave attenuator and cruise ship wharf extension projects were both accepted by the Eden Marina developers, as “100 per cent complementary” to the proposed Cattle Bay development.
He said there was a “compelling business case” for a second NSW government-funded wave attenuator to be built at Cattle Bay.
It would kick-start the developers plans for 154-berth marina, 4½ star international hotel, serviced apartment, restaurant, terrace and conference centre with housing development, he said.
Meanwhile, Boating Industry Association national CEO, Howard Glenn, said last week’s call by Mr Constance and Lands Minister Paul Toole for EOIs in the Snug Cove wave attenuator was confirmation that the NSW government has a genuine commitment to better boating facilities in NSW.
“This is good news on all fronts,” Mr. Glenn said.
“At long last, Snug Cove at Eden Harbour will be a safer destination for boaters once the Snug Cove wave attenuator is built.
“It is heartening to see that Mr Constance has persevered with this project and it is now finally coming to fruition,” he said.
