Playing a central role in Saturday’s Remembrance Day service in Bega was a young bloke from Eden and his bugle.
Tom Burn, a Year 11 student from Eden Marine High School, is also the regimental bugler for the Bemboka Light Horse troop.
Tom was congratulated and thanked by many of those in attendance following Bega’s Remembrance Day service, which marked 99 years since the signing of the armistice that brought an end to World War I hostilities.
His rendition of The Last Post was stirring, and impressive given he has only been playing for six months – although he said he has played trumpet since Year 3.
He even managed to play through the roar of a well-timed convoy of motorcycles that passed the service just as everyone was preparing for a moment’s silence.
Meanwhile, in Eden a good crowd gathered for Remembrance Day at the War Memorial on Calle Calle St.
The local RSL sub-branch said it was happy with the turnout, down a little likely due to it falling on a weekend.
