More than 40 people gathered at Drift Restaurant and Bar overlooking Twofold Bay, where they enjoyed a wonderful feast with matching wines. More than $800 was raised.
The chamber executive declared the night a resounding success and in doing so, heaped praise on the restaurant owners Leigh Hennessy and Nathan Pickett.
“Together with their staff, the Drift team produced a range of delicious meals and gave exemplary customer service,” chamber president Jenny Robb said.
“However the defining moment was when Leigh announced that of every $50 ticket sold, the business would donate $20 to the chamber, an extremely generous gesture,” she said.
The chamber has also expressed its deep gratitude to Adele Mildebrandt who took on almost the entire workload in organising this event on behalf of events manager Clair Mudaliar, who was overseas for some time in the lead up.
Ms Mudaliar said it cost the chamber more than $3000 for us to run Christmas on Imlay.
“The chamber feels that this was such an important community event that we just had to find the funds for it,” she said.
“Offering free entertainment for children such as jumping castles comes at a big cost and any support is very welcome to the chamber.”
Ms Robb also expressed gratitude to Ms Mudaliar for her commitment to this huge job.
“Clair was so determined to make this event happen that she went out of her way to seek helpers for the planning phase,” Ms Robb said.
“The chamber is eternally grateful for her resilience and determination to make it happen,” she said
People can still nominate themselves to help so please pop in and see Clair Mudaliar at E2B Phone Repairs in Imlay Street if anyone can give an hour or two of their time.
Chamber vice president Gail Ward has been overseeing preparations for the street decorations for Christmas with a new approach this year.
The chamber also has been working with Eden Mens Shed and Art on Imlay, together with a community volunteers, to ensure that the main street looks festive and welcoming for the coming holiday season.
