Speaker Stephanie Stanhope (NSW State Vice President of CWA), spoke of her recent trip to the Pacific Forum, Associated Women of the World Conference, the plight of the Pacific Island women and the aide the CWA supplies.
Special guest speaker was Jenny Stewart, a local who works for and supports the Pebbles for Nepal fundraising, Jenny spoke at length about the Nepali people, the hardships of carrying water just to support their life, because life without water is no life at all. The woman walk all day carrying 10 litres of water at a time, to water stock, crop, drink and cook. There is no body washing or hygiene use. Jenny collects money to buy water tanks, not large ones as it must be carried on the back into the hill area. She sees that it gets to the people most in need the Chenpang Hill area. In rerturn their children must attend school in the area. Jenny talked on the country, the wealth distribution and the women.
Question and answer time was interesting with Jenny’s insight into a very poor nation Nepal. Jenny hopes to educate them in hygiene, clean drinking water and washing is most important to their well being and that Nepal’s free medical service is available to all Nepali people.

A core of gardeners concerned about Queensland fruit fly continue to bait fortnightly over winter,we don't know how effective this has been ,however anything that may kill one preferably female fly is worth trying.August & September are the times we should all be starting the protection of our fruit & vegetables,so the Eden group are preparing to start weekly baiting.
POETRY REARS ITS HEAD
On Wednesday July 19 Wyndham came alive with the sound of poetry. The night in the pub was advertised as The Spirit Burns, in the tradition of Robbie Burns, the Scottish 18th century national poet. Heading the line-up of performers was Lady Longdrop from Melbourne and local author John Bray. There were about 50 in the audience, with poetic contributions from all, cosied up in front of a winter fire. The night was voted a roaring success and there’ll be another – ring the Robbie Burns pub to find out when.
In June about a dozen Eden and region poets came together for a Poets’ Brunch. It was a very successful afternoon of recited and read poetry. They all agreed, that they would meet again, so it’s planned for Saturday, August 5 at The Rusty Plough. All are welcome. There will be poetry of all kinds plus tea, coffee and snacks.
