Ms Ryan has organised a canned food drive to coincide with the Turf Club’s Christmas in July event on Sunday, July 30.
“When I think about Christmas, I think of giving and being kind and it’s cold now so I thought why not do a food drive to go with the event?” she said.
Ms Ryan has placed 17 collection boxes around the Sapphire Coast and is encouraging people to donate canned food, pasta, rice, sauces, long life milk; sugar; flour; baby food; personal hygiene products; tea; coffee - anything that is sealed and non-perishable.
The food boxes will be collected on July, 29 then donated to OzHarvest at the races on July 30 which will also raise money for Eden’s Christmas on Imlay.
“It’s the first time we’ve done a Christmas in July at the races, and because it is the Eden Cup and Christmas is all about giving, $10 of every ticket purchased will go towards Christmas in Imlay in Eden which is always a great night,” Ms Ryan said.
“It’s really a bit of a double fundraiser, for Christmas on Imlay and for those Bega Valley families in need.”
Ms Ryan has been overwhelmed with the response from the public in regards to filling up the collection boxes and said she was very excited to make the donation to OzHarvest Sapphire Coast on Sunday.
Collection bins are at E2B Phone Repair, Eden IGA, Sprout Eden, Pambula Bendigo Bank, Pambula Post Office and Wyndham General Store. Bins will be collected on Saturday, July 29.
