It’s an opportunity to not only look at the large array of different artworks on show but also to talk to some of the artists from Art and Craft by the Sea Inc.
On Saturday local watercolourist Ida Akkerman was demonstrating the use of Yupo in place of paper for watercolour art.
Well-known for its often unpredictable nature, watercolour painting takes on a whole new set of challenges when applied to this smooth plastic surface. Rather than being absorbed and creating interesting patterns, the paint runs.
In another part of the showroom, another local Jenny Roberts was demonstrating her craft skills with paper quilling. Small curls of different coloured paper strips are built into a large picture or form part of the decoration on a card or label.
Jenny admitted that while it was very fiddly it was also a “a bit of fun”.
Not surprisingly Art on Imlay has proved to be a popular stop for visitors keen to see some local art and Jenny said they have to ensure plenty of volunteers are available when the cruise ships call into Eden.
The art demonstrations take place on the last Saturday of each month starting at 10am and go until 1pm.
