Allied Natural Wood Exports sustained major storm damage, with parts of the infrastructure washed away by a "monster wave".
ANWE general manager Jarrod Wallis said on Tuesday the extent of the damage was still being assessed, but that at least part of the jetty would need to be rebuilt.
Member for Eden-Monaro Peter Hendy inspected storm damage in Eden and Tathra on Thursday including the Allied Natural Wood Exports port facility in Eden and the Tathra wharf.
“Over the last week our community has faced heavy winds and torrential rain as severe storms have impacted local homes, businesses, and infrastructure,” Dr Hendy said.
“The Turnbull and Baird governments have activated disaster relief for the Bega Valley and Eurobodalla under the Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements, and this will provide vital assistance to our community.”
Dr Hendy inspected damage to the Tathra Wharf and flooding between Bega and Tathra.
“The damage to the Tathra Wharf shows the force of the storm that hit the Bega Valley, and I’ve been speaking to Mayor [Michael] Britten about what assistance might be available under the Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements,” he said.
Dr Hendy also inspected damage to the Allied Natural Wood Exports port facility in Eden.
“The damage to the ANWE wood chip export port in Eden is significant, and I’m very concerned about the potential impact on local jobs and our regional economy,” Dr Hendy said.
“I’ve met with ANWE and they’re seeking support for some short terms costs that would then be repaid.”
“I’m working closely with Andrew Constance and will be making the case with Minister Michael Keenan.”
