Bega Valley Shire Council met on Wednesday to award the tender for the demolition to John Michelin and Son for $72,341.
Council invited tenders from suitably qualified contractors for the demolition of the buildings at the site in December 2015.
At the close of the tender process, five companies had applied to carry out the work.
Plans for a 154-berth marina, fixed wave attenuator, car park, amenities and offices on the old cannery site at Cattle Bay were unanimously approved by the Joint Regional Planning Panel in early December.
According to a background report attached to Wednesday's council agenda, an inspection by a member of council's environmental health and building surveyors was carried out on August 28 last year.
Following the inspection, "...it was revealed that dilapidated factory buildings containing bonded asbestos sheeting are likely to become a danger to the public," the report said.
An order was issued to council under the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979 to secure the site with a safety fence and cap sewer mains to prevent the entry of debris into the sewer system.
The order also covered the demolition and removal of the building, and the disposal of the material, in accordance with NSW Work Cover safe handling requirements.
"As council will be acting under the above order no development consent is required to complete the works," the report said.
The buildings referred to in the order are located on land owned by Eden Resort Hotels and the council.
"As part owner of the site, Eden Resort Hotels have been involved in the consultation process to confirm all aspects of the order have been addressed and to ensure a fair contribution of costs is made by both parties," the report said.
"Henri de Roxas, a representative of Eden Resort Hotels, has agreed in principle that the company will contribute to the demolition cost based on the portion of building situated on each of the land owner's land," it said.
