Four shooters turned up ready for their second field class workout for the year.
The format of a field class event is a little different to the championship handicap.
The club runs them roughly once a month throughout the warmer months.
There are two sighter shots allowed to check your aim and settle in.
Then five untimed shots (trainfire), five shots in 60 seconds, five shots in 30 seconds (rapid), and then five shots in random three-second exposures.
Time pressure while you're trying to steady gets the blood racing and negatively feeds back into you keeping steady, remaining calm, collected and focused are a good part of this challenge.
Field class is the one that hunters or those after vermin should try out.
It is close enough that the wind is not an issue unless it's buffeting you and it allows shooters to try out different aspects of your field ability.
At 200 yards it is sitting offhand and tightening yourself up with a sling is optional.
As the nature of this format is hurried, you just don't have the time to absorb how you have gone until the final scores are tallied, with some doing better than they thought and some a little less so.
Individual section scores are often quite close, but the tally of final results gives the overall story for the day.
Final scores were 100/20 Nils B. (.243) 76/1, Ole E. (.243) 73, Tim C. (.223) 66, Mark S. (.22250) 59.
Nils showed his consistent abilities across the board and showed very well in the rapid section with a remarkable 23/1 out of 25/5, which is good shooting in anyone's book.
Next week’s event is the 600 yards championship prone and a centrefire 8mm or under capable of holding accuracy at distance will do.
Kick off this Saturday is from 12.30pm at Tarraganda.
