“It was wonderful to recognise the hard work and achievements of all those members who have worked together to keep our beaches safe this summer’,” club secretary and emcee for the evening, Simone Shaw said.
This season many potential incidents have been averted thanks to the preventative role of local lifesavers.
“We have a wealth of experience in our club,” president Don Hay said.
“It is encouraging to see some strong bonds being formed between experienced lifesavers and newer young members who have enormous energy and enthusiasm.”
The significant talent and contributions of up and coming and experienced surf lifesavers was reflected in the major awards for the season.
Life Saver of the Year went to Beth Knox, Senior Club Person was Ann Smith and Junior Club Person was Amber Buckmaster.
The Encouragement award winner was Warren Jones, while the CWA Community award went to Jimmy McGrath and Frank Davey.
Club Spirit winner was Bron Knox and the BP Quiet Achiever went to Miep Krechting.
The junior competitor winner was Hayley Ashcroft, while the senior award was tied between Beth Knox and Jack McGuire.
Most consistent competitor was Chris Knox and the coaches award went to Turi Hides.
The Peter Robinson Shield was awarded to “The Ladz” surf boat team for most improved in the water.
